So I don't really even drink, but everyone in the soapmaking Facebook group I'm part of kept raving about rum scented soap. I knew I had to try it, despite cautions that it would accelerate trace (thickening) of the soap and might be hard to use.
My plan was to do a brown woodgrain pattern, similar to what I do with the grey, barn board pattern, but because I was worried it was going to accelerate, I rushed things and poured it too soon.
Soap is a science experiment that often results in happy accidents and this was no exception. Instead of getting woodgrain, I got what looks just like a dark, bubbly beverage. Perfect!
What's better for showcasing rum than pirates? I have no idea, so pirates it was. We dug out some of our Playmobil and Lego collection and set up some situations around a puddle in the farm lane, and a pile of bedding waiting to compost in the garden.
This was one of the most fun photo shoots I've done.
